Undergraduate Programs

The Department offers a variety of programs and degrees at the undergraduate level.  The Department provides the BA and BS degree in political science and in public administration as well as a comprehensive degree in political science. 

A major in political science requires 36 hours (12 courses) for the BA degree and 45 hours for the BS degree. The Department's offerings are divided into six subfields:

A major in public administration requires 45-50 hours including a required series of core courses and electives totaling 18 hours selected from specified courses.

Graduate Programs

The Political Science Department also offers two graduate degrees:  the Master of Public Administration and the Master of International Affairs and Administration.  The MPA program, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration, is designed to prepare students for careers in public service and to provide professional development for administrators of public agencies and non-profit organizations.  The MIAA program is tailored to meet the needs of students interested in pursuing careers in international affairs in the public or private sector.  It is also designed to prepare students wishing to continue their graduate education at the doctoral level in political science, international relations, and other related fields.  Both programs require a minimum of 39 semester hours.
